Nigel Duffy is a deep technologist and serial entrepreneur who has been at the forefront of AI for more than 20 years. Serving as EY’s Global Artificial Intelligence Leader he is responsible for identifying, designing, implementing and industrializing AI technologies to transform the way the organization does business.
Nigel leads a global network of AI@EY Labs building products and infusing AI into how EY operates, competes and provides services. As a part of EY Global Innovation he leads the global cross service line strategy, governance, and ecosystem relationships for AI.
Before joining EY, he was a founder and executive at technology startups that use AI to run hedge funds, design pharmaceuticals, control computer games and improve online retail.
Nigel is an inventor on multiple patents including diverse applications of AI and author of highly cited papers in machine learning, chemistry, biology, linguistics, and economics. He is a board member for the Systems that Learn Initiative at MIT Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Lab.
Nigel holds a master’s degree in Mathematics from University College Dublin and a PhD in Machine Learning from the University of California, Santa Cruz. His original research includes the first theoretical papers on gradient boosting.
